Norwegian Championship in Kristiansand 23-25 April 2010

This weekend the Norwegian Championship in boxing took place in Kristiansand. Oslo BK was the best club this year with two gold medals (Henrik Gisholt -67 and me -60), two silver (Kristin Soot -54 and Stian -64) and three bronze (Yvonne -57, Thale -60 and Yvette -64)

The preparations for the Norwegian Championship was very good. I was actually not going to compete in the Norwegian Championship this year because I was going to participate in the big international tournament Felix Stam in Polen the same week. Because of all the ash me and Max did not go to Poland on Tuesday.

I was sparring with the junior Joacim Havem from April 9th – April 13th and the swedish -60 Kosovare from Apil 13th to April 16th in Oslo. The weekend before the Norwegian Championship OBK had a training camp for all the participants from OBK who was going to box in the Norwegian Champ so it was almost two weeks with a lot of sparring. All boxers from OBK was in great shape before this weekend. Martin Kitel (the former Norwegian national team coach, who are now club coach in OBK) was following us to Kristiansand with his wife Henriette Kitel.

Stian and Yvonne was the first boxers from OBK that were fighting. Stain won his match against Artur Akhmadov from Sp. kl. 09 on RSC in the second round. Yvonne (which had a baby two months ago!!) lost her fight against the good kickboxer Tonje Sørlie 9-2.

Saturday. Thale lost her fight against the good kickboxer Fam Elgan (22-7). Fam started very offensive and Thale had to take a lot of punches in the first round. In the next rounds Thale came better into the fight but she lost against a stronger boxer today. Yvette was the next girl in the ring. She met her opponent two months ago and won that match clear but today Cathrine was much smarter. Yvette is very strong but Cathrine moved around in the ring so Yvette which is shorter didnt get close enough. Even though Yvette were leading after the first rounds she lost the fight 13-8. The last girl from OBK, Yvonne, was boxing for the bronze today against the young Anina Emilie Hauan (B-30). Yvonne boxed very good sometimes during this fight and no one could se that this girl had a baby two months ago (!). Yvonne won the match 11-7.

Sunday and Finals.

First girl out was the Korean express Kristin Soot. She were boxing the young Marielle Hansen from Bergen AK. They also meet in the Norwegian Champ last year were Marielle won a hight fight. Kristin was hungry to get here revenge but didnt quit find the distance in this match. Marielle who is a very offensive boxer was leading after the first round and Kristin did never catch up and lost the fight 15-11.

I was boxing Fam Elgan in the -60 final. She was not as offensive in this match as she was yesterday when she defeated Thale. I did have a hard time to find the right distance because she was jumping so much and running backwards. Even though I feinted out her punches I was not close enough to contra her. But in the last rounds i did make some good attacks and I won the fight 18-5. I was impressed of her good physics.

Stian lost his final against the strong Alexander Jacobsen from Bergen AK. Stian did a good job though keeping Jacobsen busy with his jab.

Henrik won his final 5-3 against Ahmed Nalajev 5-3. Henrik does not punch very often but when he does it he does it well and hard! Sometimes he also use both hands. Congrats Henrik. I guess Kristin have to do the cooking the rest of this year to..
