Haringey Box Cup 2010

Wednesday 16.07.10 Oslo Bokseklubb are flying to London to compete in the international tournament Haringey Box Cup in London. This is the third (or fourth?) time I participate in this tournament and I look forward to enter the ring again and to spend time with my friends in this great capital (and do some damage at my favorite store Top Shop !). I have been training in Washington DC before this competition because I have been working at NIH. Bruce and Lawrence have been helping me and I have also done a lot of work with the professional female boxer Jennifer Salinas which are training for her professional match coming up 14th of July. The only Norwegian boxer in the ring Thursday was Stian (OBK, -64 kg). He lost his match against an english boxer but the fight was tight.

There were no fights Friday but tomorrow Kristin and Yvette are fighting in the afternoon. My fight is on Sunday.

Sunday and finales

Kristin Soot (OBK -54kg) met the strong English boxer Leah Flintham in the final. Leah was boxing very offensive all four rounds and Kristin had some problems especially in the first round keeping her on the right distance. Kristin boxed better every round moving backward with some nice sidesteps, but she lost (surprisingly) the fight.

In the -60kg final I meet the two times world champion Katie Taylor form Ireland. Max and I had agreed on a very offensive tactic and I was prepared to go to war. It was four really tuff rounds and I lost 2-1 to the world champ. For me this was a victory knowing Im strong enough to perform at this level fighting one of the best female boxers in the world!
