Hmm haven’t been so good at updating my page lately.
Only four weeks to the European Championship and that is the only thing that have been in my head the last months. I have never considered myself to be a full time athlete since I do have a job that is important to me, and I do appreciate living a somewhat normal life. I have thought of myself as a girl that just love boxing and are passionate about training. Never acknowledged how important boxing is for me. I’m not a boxer. Boxing is my hobby. Not true. My name is Ingrid Egner and I am a boxer.
The last year I have been living a full time athlete-life and now I find myself in a “training-bubble”. Sitting here Sunday evening planning next week hour by hour; when I’m going to wake up, what my different work outs will consist of, when I’m going to work, what I’m going to eat and so on..I hate it, and I love it.

Were did the summer go?
After China Open I had about two weeks training before we went to London to compete in the international tournament Haringey Cup. I had two good fights there in the women elite -60 kg and won. When I got home I traveled to Lofoten on vacation to relax, fish and run in the mountain with family and friends. The nature up there is really beautiful and the midnight sun is unforgettable. Then I went to Liverpool to participate in a big sport scientific conference. I presented data from my PhD and was on a lot of interesting talks in the field of sports. I travelled with old colleagues from the Norwegian School of Sport and Sciences were I did my master in sport biology so we had a fun time.
When I got home after one week without any boxing I was full of motivation to start getting in shape to the training camp in China. End of July we spent 10 days training with the Chinese girls on their Olympic Center outside Guyiang. The training in China was very good. We had 2-3 sessions every day and three sessions with fight sparring. Although they are doing task sparring and exercises a little bit different then us much was familiar. They were working a lot with movement, both legs and upper body movements as we do, but new exercises. So finally home in Norway again we started up ordinary training after summer at Oslo Boxing Club. Tomorrow we start training camp in Oslo and on Monday I’m going to Sweden on training camp until Thursday. Next tournament will be in Ukraine in September. European Champ will be in Nederland in October.

Sitting in my room finally getting online after 5 days. It so crazy being here so far from home were all the terrible violence and bombing has happened. Since we didn’t get to read the news my dad has updated me with texts and we have also watched Chinese news that covers the terrorist attacks. It sounds unrealistic that something like this could happen in peaceful Norway. My first thought goes out to the family of all the victims. So many young people that were helpless shoot down. Looking at pictures in the news of people all over the world laying out flowers at the Norwegian embassies showing that they care and that their thoughts are with the Norwegian people is touching. Luckily for me none of my family or friends were at this places were the terror attacks happened (as I know here from China) but in such a small country as Norway everyone knows someone that’s affected by this. I wish I could be home with my family right now.

Tomorrow Im going to the scientific conference ECSS in Liverpool. I am looking forward to get a lot of scientific input. YEAH. This conference is a scientific conference about sport and everything around it. As some of you know I am working on my phd in physiology in the University of Oslo. With a background from the Norwegian School of Sport Science (that’s by the way is the greatest sport school) I do appreciate that I can work in the physiology field. Making people more active and see the beauty of sport I do see as my mission in life. Im now doing research about the long lasting effects of anabolic steroids in Soleus and Edl. Soleus is a muscle that mostly consist of fiber type I (slow twitch myosin) which are shown to be most sensitive to anabolic steroids. But out of curiosity I wanted also to check Edl that is a muscle consistent mostly of fiber type II. Im not near finishing the results but I already see that the effect of using anabolic steroids are huge, and it scares me. It does not surprise me because other has shown this before and Im most interested in the muscle nuclei. But, I do wish to keep sport clean. Sport is not fair genetically. You even have the talent or u dont. But please dont put performance enhancers into the sport. We want to believe that sport is fair. We want to believe that the winner won bec of training hard and talent not bec of drug. If we accept drug abuse sport is worth nothing. Actually it is the scientist in the lab that are winning the medals and not he athlete. We dont want to see that. As a scientist and a top athlete Im telling u all; what am I training for if we put performance enhancement into sport?

I lost 11-19.
It was a really tough fight. I started out putting pressure on her since she is a very defensive fighter. I wanted to get her tired thinking that I just had to work her down to win. We knew that she was good to keep distance and she throw good long hooks when she moves backwards. In the first round it really worked, we didnt throw that many punches but the tempo was still very high. 1-1 after first round. In the second round I sometimes let her take over the command and she threw some punches in the back of my head and I was down 3-5. The third round I tried to put pressure on her again but I didnt have the same sharpness as the first round and I was down 5-13. I have to say she got some easy points bec my guard was there all the time. In the last round she was tired and I worked it as hard as I could. She held and run backward making it hard for me. The score ended up 11-19.
But anyways, this have been a good tournament for me. Four fights against 4 very different fighters so this is good experience for me. Also knowing I fight even with one of the worlds best boxer in my weight category gives me confidence and motivation to work even harder.

In the semifinal i was boxing Mavzuna Chorieva from Tadsjikistan. I won 15-7 and was leading all four rounds.
From earlier fights this tournament we saw that Chorieva was a good counter-boxer and that she had somehow big movements. Our tactic was to try to feint her punches out and then counter her. Already in the first round i found my rhythm and landed some good punches. After first round i was 2 up. She started the second round a little bit more aggressive since she needed points but I answered sharp and she struggled to follow my footwork. After 2nd round I was leading 9-5. Again in the third round she started out aggressive but I moved backward and hit her with some nice right hooks. After third round it was 12-6. In the fourth and last round I only used my feet to put pressure on her and pretend I was going to attach her without actually attacking her. So I didnt use much energy and I have a lot of energy for the finale tomorrow! I won the match 15-7. Tomorrow I will be fighting the Chinese Dong Cheng. She was 2nd in the World Champ last year. She is (very) tall and of course has (very) long arms (but only two) so its going to be challenging. Looking forward to finals tomorrow:)

Just finish eating breakfast. This morning me and Martin were out jogging for 15 minutes just to get the body waking up before the weigh-in. No problem making the weight.
This afternoon and fighting Chinese Dong Cheng (about 13.00 Norwegian time). She was at the training camp we had last summer in Beijing so I know a little bit about here and I know I have to box good to win.
