I don’t know what u call it in English but I am an “apåklatt”, meaning I’m the child that came long after anyone thought that my mom and dad ever would have a child. I have two older brothers that are eight and eleven years older than me. The coolest brothers in the world. One is a bodybuilder and a gym owner, the other is the baddest hockey-pokey player in the Norwegian business league.

In the end, if u got to boys I guess a mom want a cute little girl she could dress up

and then (karma): she got me.

Faith.

As u guess I ended up like my brothers.

What can u say; I mean I remember my brothers fighting with me. Not in a mean way, but we were wrestling. My mother screamed, “leave her alone!” and my brother gave me “blodpupp” don’t think II will translate that one.

My point is; I grove up whit brothers that taught me how to be tuff. I guess I am a tomboy. Yes, I am a tomboy.

But my mom always complains about my nose. She says; U used to have a straight nose. But now it isn’t.

I am happy about my blue/yellow/brown nose. I have good sparring these days. In the gym I have a lot of young guys that are trying to kick my ass. I am blessed. I have good sparring.

I am often asked if I am turning pro after done with amateur boxing. I guess for two reasons. Many see it as the next step in the boxing career and since it is only allowed to box amateur until the age of 34 u cannot be an amateur forever. It also seems reasonably that after training for so many years u should try to make some money and fame out of it.

The other reason why people seems interested in my opinion about professional boxing is that it is forbidden in Norway. The argument for the ban is that it is dangerous. I don’t think that is a wrong argument. Boxing is a sport where two athletes try to hit each other in the head as many times and as hard as they can. I don’t think that is healthy. But on the other hand I don’t think doing any sport on a high level is with out any concerns. Just to mention some, downhill skiing, car races, hockey, handball and soccer are all sports where athletes get serious injuries (even now in Norway, reading newspapers, eating carbohydrates are dangerous). What it comes down to is probably the fact that in all those sports injuries are accidents when in boxing hard punches to the head is not accidental but part of the game.

For answering the first question my drive and motivation for boxing is that I love training hard and I love all the challenges I get in boxing. Always reaching for being more technical, faster, stronger and smarter. Boxing gives me the feeling of mastery and it gives me confidence in my daily life. That is what boxing gives me and I am happy with that.

When it comes to the ban of professional boxing in Norway I do think the athletes should have the right to fight professional here in Norway. Everybody knows that doing sports at high levels are risky. Some sports more than others, but in the end I don’t believe in a ban against sport.

Do you?

So it’s February already.

Not doing a good job updating this page.

Only 3 more months to the Olympic qualification in China. And after that, two more months to the Olympics in London. The next months are going to be busy. I am going to Ireland in the end of February to fight Katie Taylor. It is the same weekend as the Norwegian Championship so I am not going to fight for the title this year. In my opinion, Katie Taylor is the best female fighter in the world (considering all weight classes) and I look forward to this fight. It is time to find out if I am where I should be in the preparations for the Olympics.

In March we are going to Felix Stamm in Poland and in April we are going to both training camp and a tournament in Greece. Departure to China will be in the beginning of May. The World Championship starts 9th of May. So the qualification is going to be tuff. 12 girls in each weight category in total (51 kg, 60 kg and 75 kg) and only eight girls from Europe.

Will try to update more often now so you guys can follow my training and preparations. It is going to be an exciting year.

We did jumping on a power plate, 40 m running, squat, bench press, rowing and “brutal bench” (stomach exercise, were u are hanging down with head and do sit ups). Before I come with the “brutal” history I have to tell u I did 75 kg at the bench press, 90 kg in dead lift. I did 90 in squat. But getting down from the “brutal bench” i injured myself at the rowing machine (I kicked my leg into the rowing machine). I had to sew 3 stitches but my leg i okay..

Hmm haven’t been so good at updating my page lately.

Only four weeks to the European Championship and that is the only thing that have been in my head the last months. I have never considered myself to be a full time athlete since I do have a job that is important to me, and I do appreciate living a somewhat normal life. I have thought of myself as a girl that just love boxing and are passionate about training. Never acknowledged how important boxing is for me. I’m not a boxer. Boxing is my hobby. Not true. My name is Ingrid Egner and I am a boxer.

The last year I have been living a full time athlete-life and now I find myself in a “training-bubble”. Sitting here Sunday evening planning next week hour by hour; when I’m going to wake up, what my different work outs will consist of, when I’m going to work, what I’m going to eat and so on..I hate it, and I love it.

Were did the summer go?

After China Open I had about two weeks training before we went to London to compete in the international tournament Haringey Cup. I had two good fights there in the women elite -60 kg and won. When I got home I traveled to Lofoten on vacation to relax, fish and run in the mountain with family and friends. The nature up there is really beautiful and the midnight sun is unforgettable. Then I went to Liverpool to participate in a big sport scientific conference. I presented data from my PhD and was on a lot of interesting talks in the field of sports. I travelled with old colleagues from the Norwegian School of Sport and Sciences were I did my master in sport biology so we had a fun time.

When I got home after one week without any boxing I was full of motivation to start getting in shape to the training camp in China. End of July we spent 10 days training with the Chinese girls on their Olympic Center outside Guyiang. The training in China was very good. We had 2-3 sessions every day and three sessions with fight sparring. Although they are doing task sparring and exercises a little bit different then us much was familiar. They were working a lot with movement, both legs and upper body movements as we do, but new exercises. So finally home in Norway again we started up ordinary training after summer at Oslo Boxing Club. Tomorrow we start training camp in Oslo and on Monday I’m going to Sweden on training camp until Thursday. Next tournament will be in Ukraine in September. European Champ will be in Nederland in October.
